Nearly 800 poultry health professionals from more than 25 countries will gather in Portland, Oregon, from July 29 to 31 for the 2025 conference of the American Association of Avian Pathologists (AAAP).
Hundreds more are expected to register to access over 40 recorded online presentations that will be available to attendees and non-attendees from July 15 to August 15.
“The AAAP Annual Meeting offers attendees multiple opportunities to network with top minds in the industry, all while expanding your knowledge in poultry health, welfare and food safety,” says Suzanne McComb, DVM, executive vice president of AAAP.
The 3-day AAAP conference will feature approximately 300 oral presentations and posters that are focused on various topics, including antimicrobial/antibiotic resistance, poultry viral and bacterial diseases, coccidiosis, enteric health, vaccinology, diagnostics, animal welfare, case reports and more. The full program is currently posted on AAAP’s Annual Meeting website.
Featured speakers
The AAAP conference’s keynote speaker will be Michael Donohue, former vice president of Agri Stats, Inc., who will discuss “Advances in Broiler Production Efficiencies 1980 through 2025.”
“The modern history of the poultry industry, whether we are talking about broiler, commercial layer or turkey production, is a story of continuous improvement in many areas, including production efficiencies leading to lower costs of production and increased availability of products to meet changing consumer demands,” Donohue says.
“By reviewing the history of US broiler production over the last 45 years, we can examine the challenges producers confront in meeting increasing consumer demand for more chicken, as well as where changes will likely occur in the future.”
Louise Dufour-Zavala, DVM, executive director at the Georgia Poultry Laboratory Network, will lecture on “A Georgia Poultry Industry Historical Timeline.” She will use publications, records and historical stories to discuss how the poultry industry evolved in the state of Georgia.
“A chicken contest, a lost box in the post office and gallons of antigen: the evolution of the poultry industry in Georgia,” Dufour-Zavala says.
Holly Ward, PhD, CEO of Shore Coaching, will speak at the Women’s Network Lunch. Her talk, “The Untapped Advantage: Executive Coaching for Exceptional Performance,” will discuss facilitating self-discovery and growth by taking responsibility for your own development and creating a lasting personal and professional transformation.
Food safety symposium
Separate from the main scientific program, the AAAP conference will host a 4-hour morning symposium, “Preharvest Poultry Food Safety Symposium,” featuring almost a dozen oral presentations on pre-harvest food safety systems, interventions, and analysis.
