Modern Poultry names veterinarian to managing editor post

Modern Poultry has appointed JoAnna Pendergrass, DVM, as its managing editor.

Pendergrass is responsible for selecting and editing all content for the website’s news sections while coordinating all newsletters and social media posts with Modern Poultry’s content manager.

“For us, hiring JoAnna was a no-brainer,” says Joseph Feeks, editor of Modern Poultry.

“Besides being bright and energetic, she’s a veterinarian, an accomplished medical writer and she lives in Georgia — one of the top production areas in the world. What’s not to like?”

Pendergrass received her veterinary degree at the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine. Earlier she earned her bachelor’s degree in biology at Hampton University and did her post-doctoral research fellowship at Emory University. She is also past president of the Southeast chapter of the American Medical Writers Association (AMWA) and serves on AMWA’s Board of Directors.

“The poultry science community is committed to the rigorous use of science and technology to improve poultry health and wellbeing and move the poultry industry forward,” Pendergrass says.

“I look forward to working with the amazing team at Modern Poultry to build a bridge between this community and the industry’s decision makers.”
