In the “Let’s Talk Turkey” episode of the Unplucked podcast produced by the Poultry Science Association, Carrie Cremers, DVM, manager of technical service and animal welfare at Jennie-O, discussed how the weight of ever-present HPAI has led to biosecurity burnout among workers.
Waiting for the H5 influenza outbreak to slow down in dairy cattle is no longer enough for the AAAP and PSA. The two groups teamed up to push for more action to help the dairy industry address its growing outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza. In response to the ongoing H5N1 avian influenza outbreak and questions surrounding the use of vaccination to control the disease, several experts from the American Association of Avian Pathologists (AAAP) created a fact sheet on H5N1.

To help improve biosecurity on individual premises and prevent introduction or spread of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI), USDA recently announced plans to expand assessments and audits available to commercial poultry producers.
Enviro Tech has received a label amendment from the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) allowing the use of PeraGuard® AH, a dry formulation of peracetic acid, to be used to disinfect surfaces from bacteria and viruses, including avian influenza A (H3N2).

HPAI virus continues to take a heavy toll on US poultry while raising concerns about transmission to other species, including humans. How serious are these concerns and what are the transmission routes?
To address the strain on the nation’s egg supply and resultant record egg prices due to the current HPAI outbreak, the National Chicken Council petitioned the FDA to reverse or modify current regulations that compel the broiler industry to discard nutritious and safe eggs.
To combat the spread of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI), the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) is updating its policy for pre-slaughter surveillance to enhance testing of turkey flocks in affected states.
