How data-driven insights are reshaping flock management

Data is playing a growing role in helping producers manage risk, optimize health and justify production decisions. From digitizing information to store it securely to using it to guide real-time decision-making, for Dan Wilson, DVM, founder of Wilson Veterinary Co., it has become integral to the way he works with producers to improve flock performance.

Study suggests potential to reduce dietary amino acid intake in pullets

sspiegel0120@gmail.com on June 6, 2024

Today’s pullets are bred to reach sexual maturity sooner, are more efficient once they reach the egg-laying stage and remain productive longer than layers of past years. Those are all positives for egg producers, but is the industry keeping pace with their protein needs?

Pullin: Tips for prepping layer pullets for cage-free production

sspiegel0120@gmail.com on January 10, 2024

Beak trimming of hens: Practices, welfare concerns and alternatives

Beak trimming is common in the management of laying hens, involving the removal of a portion of a bird’s beak to minimize harmful behaviors. While beak trimming helps reduce injuries among birds, the technique has also raised animal welfare concerns. Thus, farmers and researchers are continuing to explore ways to manage hens without the need to trim their beaks.
