Layer chick well-being unaffected by changing transport stocking density, in absence of other stressors

sspiegel0120@gmail.com on April 8, 2024

Without other stressors to skew results, altering stocking density (SD) within common ranges does not affect the well-being of layer chicks being transported from hatcheries to pullet-rearing operations.

Arkansas researchers develop challenge model for evaluating formaldehyde alternatives for controlling pathogenic hatchery bacteria

sspiegel0120@gmail.com on April 4, 2024

Formaldehyde fumigation is a conventional method used to control total environmental microbial counts in the hatchery. However, according to Christine N. Vuong, PhD, University of Arkansas, this method does not differentiate between beneficial or pathogenic microbes.

NCSU: ESPs may improve indoor air quality for cage-free layers

sspiegel0120@gmail.com on April 4, 2024

Bird welfare is improved in cage-free layer systems compared to cage systems, but indoor air quality suffers in a cage-free environment due to higher bird activity.

The ability to process birds on farms and eliminate live transport offers some compelling benefits to the poultry industry whose customers are increasingly disconnected from animal agriculture.

Study sheds new light on optimal inclusion rate of a ß-xylanase and ß-glucanase enzyme in corn-soy diets for broilers

sspiegel0120@gmail.com on March 27, 2024

Optimize poultry feed enzymes! New research finds ideal dosage for improved broiler performance.

Nutritionists know there is often an “ideal level” when dosing feed enzymes. The challenge is determining this level in the feed matrix for optimal response and measurable economic benefits.
